ASMR: The Mad Gasser of Mattoon, History Facts | Ear-to-ear Whispering
In 1944, in the town of Mattoon, it is believed that some sort of figure prowled around the neighbourhood spraying a paralysis-causing gas into people's houses.
The original few cases seem to have some merit, but as we frequently find with these wikipedia readings... things changed. A hysteria began and people began reporting anything they thought could be suspicious which further pushed the frenzy.
