Finally made it to my father’s birthplace — the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴.
This trip is deeply personal. As I walk the streets, feel the island breeze, and hear the rhythms of bachata and merengue in the air, I can’t help but think of my dad. He was born here, raised in this vibrant culture, and now I’m standing where his life began. I wish he were still alive to witness this moment with me — to share stories, laugh over memories, and walk side by side through his hometown.

There’s something powerful about returning to your roots. Visiting the Dominican Republic isn’t just about the beaches or the all-inclusive resorts — it’s about family legacy, heritage, and honoring those who came before us. From the colorful streets of Santo Domingo to the breathtaking views of Puerto Plata and the soul of el campo, every step I take feels like a reconnection to a part of me I’ve never fully known until now.

Whether you’re planning your first Caribbean getaway, exploring Dominican culture and history, or seeking a personal journey to discover your ancestry, let this be a reminder: our past shapes our present. I’m proud to be Afro-Dominican. I’m proud to carry my father’s name. And today, I feel closer to him than ever before.
