💈 It Took Years to Find This 1970s Barbershop in Chiapas Mexico - Toño's Barberia
💈 This 78-year-old barber made me look young and handsome! Facial hair line-up at Toño's Barberia! 🇲🇽
So I had my eyes on this barbershop in San Cristobal, Mexico for a couple years ever since seeing a photograph of it online...
Like a lot of old school places, there was limited information but I loved the unique and collected over time look of this shop ✨
It was such a pleasure to meet Rafael Ramos Trujillo! He's 78 years old and opened his barbershop in 1972. He worked as both an elementary school teacher and a barber up until 15 years ago when he retired from teaching. Barbering has always been part of his life - it’s a family tradition he grew up with 💈
His great-grandfather, grandfather, dad, and Rafael's sons all worked as barbers. His dad also worked as a teacher in addition to being a barber.
Among all the items in the shop, his favorite antiques are the clocks and radios 🕰️ He appreciates how well-made and durable antique pieces are compared to the disposable items made today.
When he’s not working, you’ll find him listening to music and reading 📚 He also enjoys practicing basketball, walking a lot and cycling 🏀
Rafael loves his job and feels "it’s best to be busy even if one is older.” He says, "It’s always best to be doing something, something useful.” 🙌🏼❤️
✨ Life advice? Do a lot of exercise. Eat well for your age. Exercise is about consistency. And avoid vices - smoking, drinking, etc.
