Moxa has long been used within Traditional Chinese Medicine such as acupuncture, inhalation and massage to promote health in the body and mind. Moxa is the dried herb of the mugwort plant and is effective in my experience with all manner of complaints. I use it with coolness in the body, a condition associated with stagnation or tightness especially around muscles, digestion and flow eg menstrual system. Moxa is known to encourage flow hence aids a lack of elimination such as digestively, with periods or with clearing issues no longer serving the body and mind.
I demonstrate how I use it in this video with hubby Jez. I especially like the herby smell of the infusing moxa, although some people aren't that keen, so I don't use it very often in the clinic in case the aroma that lasts in the Bothy afterwards isn't received well!
Watch how I introduce the copper roller to Jez's back then experiment with various ways of using it while checking in with Jez for feedback to make sure he's comfortable with the pressure, the temperature and it's effect all the way through the treatment.
The effect on the client is a feeling of deep warmth, a rolling caring massage together with a wonderful sense of flow. Jez ends up incredibly relaxed almost to the point of sleep.
