What You Need to Know About Astronomy: The Solar System [ASMR]

Hello dolls, I am excited to announce I am doing a series called What The Average Human Needs to Know About Astronomy! That’s a long name so I will just call it Elise’s Crash Course episodes :) I hope you enjoy!

My credentials if you are interested:
- Passed both college physics and chemistry
- Astronomy courses at UC Berkeley
- 2 years working with PhD students and graduates at the University of Arizona at Mount Lemmon and Mount Graham
- Founded a small club for astronomy and physics
- East Bay Astronomical Society member

Here are some facts I promised you all:
- Mercury has a day of 176 Earth days, not 59 as I said :=
- 1,300 Earths can fit into Jupiter; 1,000 Jupiters can fit into the sun
- Uranus has a tilt of approx. 98°, we think due to an ancient collision when it was still forming
- The Kuiper Belt is believed to be the origin of short period comets; it extends for approx. 2.99 billion km!
- The great red spot on Jupiter is shrinking at the moment
- Neptune was discovered due to mathematical calculations of its assumed position because of fluctuations in the orbit of Uranus in 1846
- The Kuiper Belt is named after Dutch- American astronomer Gerard Kuiper
- Pluto is the largest discovered body in the Kuiper Belt, followed by Eris
- The Oort Cloud is named after Dutch astronomer Jan Oort; another potential source of long period comets
