💈 Wet Shave At Old School 1960s Buenos Aires Barbershop | Peluquería Alfio
Alfredo Findano is the owner of Peluquería Alfio, and it was opened by his father in 1965. His father immigrated to Argentina from Italy in the late 1940s. He had learned barbering as a kid and began working in different places once he was settled in Argentina. In the early 60s, he went to New York for a couple years where he did very well. Alfredo says his dad cut the hair of Rocky Marciano and Jerry Lewis. Ultimately, his dad returned to Argentina and opened Peluquería Alfio.
Back in the day, the barbershop was bustling with eight barbers working. They offered hair treatments, manicures and pedicures. Actors and singers visited the shop. His father gave haircuts to politicians and even former president, Don Raúl Alfonsín!
The space really feels like a time capsule - very little has changed. Alfredo showed us an old commercial that was filmed there, which was very cool to see 🙌🏼

Before becoming a barber Alfredo worked in a bank but certain circumstances led him to barbering. He has been a barber since 1982, and he began working in his dad's barbershop. In 1997, his dad passed away and Alfredo has continued working in the shop even though he is technically retired now. He says he has good clients who have become friends. "So thank God we can continue with this beautiful task."
