If you knew the future, would you change it? | Whispered Philosophy Lecture for Sleep

This video combines a variety of ideas to consider how life would be if we released ourselves from sequential thought - thinking of time as something that unfolds in a sequence. We begin with Nietzsche's famous quote about eternal recurrence, move into Ted Chiang's "Story of Your Life" (the inspiraiton for the film Arrival) and then finish with a discussion of Fermat's Principle of Least Time, which explores the nature and behavior of light.

I hope that this merging of literature, theory, and science can help us rethink our own lives and our relationship both to the past and future. Enjoy!

Love,
Jessa Lynn
