It was a still, calm, quiet night in the neighborhood. At around 11PM, I setup a lantern on a small wood stool, my camera, and binaural (in-ear) microphones attached to a styrofoam head. I then recorded the next 2 hours (prior to editing), capturing the ambient sounds in our backyard as well as everything else in the area. I was not outside / off-camera during this recording.
There's not much to SEE except for the occasional moth. I was hoping we might get a guest appearance by a fox, raccoon or anything, but sadly that was not the case. However, there is plenty to HEAR:
- crickets & katydids
- distant traffic and nearby passing cars (EQ'd the best I could)
- unknown critters (mouse? owl? fox? raccoon? bird?) occasionally scurrying about in the nearby bushes and dried leaves
- occasionally what sounds like Canadian Geese?
- the Great Horned Owl shows up again ( original video here: https://youtu.be/gUL7ADuLE_Y ) which makes me think it's taken up permanent residence in the area
I hope this helps you relax, sleep and maybe even experience ASMR!
