Last year during our time in Mexico City, everyone told us we had to check out Oaxaca. So glad we made the trip! We had an awesome time, especially visiting Bastard Old School and meeting Jahzeel Macias Salazar 🙌🏼

Jahzeel spent his childhood in Morelia and his teenage years in Puerto Escondido, in the south of Oaxaca. During his adolescence, he enjoyed surfing, playing punk music, metal music, and skateboarding 🏄🏻♂️
Beach culture naturally blended with alternative music, sports and fashion, shaping his interests 🎸 He says he had great influences and developed "an appreciation for classical culture in general.”
All his life, Jahzeel has believed in good men's grooming. His father, who was in the military, set an early example with his very elegant and clean look ✨ Everything about his uniform from the shoes to the pants reflected a classic style. And of course, the haircut is always very clean - the classic side part.
Jahzeel began barbering 15 years ago and went to Europe to learn. While visiting his uncle in Barcelona, he was inspired there by a barber. At the time, he also learned about personal branding. When he returned to Mexico, he continued to look for classic barbers. Bastard Old School barbershop has been part of the same neighborhood in Oaxaca City for 14 years (though the current location is a newer spot within the same area). Step inside, and you’ll find an eclectic mix of local art, plants, vintage couches, old mirrors, and a pink barber pole spinning in the corner 💈✨
His hope is that people feel good in the barbershop with the change in their face and hair and forgetting some of their worries. He wants his customers to go home happy.
✨ Life advice: Try to be happy. Because when you are young, you think about material things bringing you joy but as you get older, your eyes are opened. Happiness is finding your inner peace.
Jahzeel isn’t just passionate about barbering - he’s also deeply passionate about Oaxaca! He and his fiancée gave us such a warm welcome by showing us around town and introducing us to some of the local markets as well as different dishes and drinks Oaxaca is known for❣️ Thank you SO MUCH Jahzeel, Sofi, and Jose for your incredible hospitality ❤️❤️❤️
